	Event Overviews


	At Northeastern University’s LGBTQA Resource Center, I am responsible for creating our social media posts, including event overviews that compile our events for the upcoming week, month, or semester.
	

Compiling our events in this manner allows us to reach more eyes, doubling the interactions we receive on our event posts overall. We also print the monthly and semester event overviews for easy access around the Center’s physical space.

	Northeastern University’s LGBTQA Resource Center has an average of four events a week and I am responsible for designing marketing assets for all of them!
	

Below you can peruse a small selection of the posters I have created. I also supervise one to two Social Media Assistants per semester who assist in the creation of these assets. The Social Media Assistants’ work is not shown here but can be seen on Instagram @nu_lgbtqa.

	BU Event Posters


	These are two of the events that I designed materials for as part of my internship at the Classics Department at Boston University. The Aurelio Conference poster was distributed throughout six states in New England. The Curculio event poster was created in one-on-one consultation with the lead professor and includes a custom illustration.&#38;nbsp;
	Not only did I create the main poster that was distributed in physical form, but I also created additional materials such as a version of the poster formatted for Instagram and a banner for the Eventbrite page for the event.

	Giving Day Social Media Posts


	During my internship with the Classics Department at Boston University, I designed a series of social media posts to be posted throughout the day on Giving Day, a day dedicated to recruiting donations. Our robust social media campaign ensured that we reached many potential donors, including one that commented “Thank you to whoever runs the Classics Dept social media! Your posts definitely prompted me to give yesterday!”
	

It turned out to be the most successful Giving Day ever for the Classics Department. We brought in the most money of any department in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as having the second greatest number of individual gifts.

	Course Templates


	These course templates were designed to advertise different classes to students and encourage enrollment. It was important to highlight the information students care about: the credits they get, the professor, and the time of the class. This way, a student who just passed by these flyers in the hall would be able to immediately know if any particular class fit into their schedule, met requirements they needed, and had a professor they enjoyed.&#38;nbsp;
	The last image shows the instructions I left for my supervisor who is less familiar with Adobe InDesign. This way, someone with limited knowledge of the program should still be able to edit the template in a way that is consistent with the branding of the courses. This ensures that the course templates can continue to be used successfully in the future, even though I am no longer working for the department.

	Grounding


	I’ve previously explored trauma and mental illness, but I had never explored healthy coping mechanisms. As I learned about more forms of therapy, I felt it was important to start expressing what treatment in mental illness looks like, not just what the low points look like. The 54321 grounding exercise is a technique that is very helpful for grounding and calming from anxiety and dissociation. 
	This technique is special to me because I was able to recommend it to someone who had never heard of it before and it was the most effective method she had ever tried for grounding from dissociation. I was interested in communicating this technique in a very easy to follow format so that it could be referenced in those moments of urgency and hopefully help many others.

	As, Not For


	As, Not For is an incomplete historical survey of work created by African-American graphic designers from 1865 to 1999 curated by Jerome Harris. He started the project in graduate school when he was trying to find more work by Black designers and one of his professors encouraged him to turn it into an exhibition. The curated collection of work has been shown in over 15 different locations, including the exhibition I worked on, shown at Boston University from November 2020 to February 2021. Jerome gave us almost complete creative freedom in designing the show, allowing us to choose how we grouped and displayed the work, how we marketed, and basically everything else except for mandating that the posters all be the same size to have them all on equal playing ground.&#38;nbsp;
	I worked under my professor Mary Yang alongside three other students, Ashlie Dawkins, Angela Lian, and Jay Li. We all had our focuses with mine being the 3D Design elements and wayfinding which were particularly important in the first year of the COVID pandemic. We used marks that Jerome created for our wayfinding on the floor, creating a clear flow through the gallery. We collaborated and were in constant communication to ensure that our show was cohesive from the 2D and 3D design, to the social media marketing, and beyond.&#38;nbsp;

	As a Brazilian American nonbinary person, I have struggled to find the words to describe my experiences in Portuguese. Portuguese is a gendered language where to describe yourself, you have to gender yourself. To say you’re Brazilian, you have to choose between being brasileiro or brasileira.&#38;nbsp;
	

It is unclear exactly when people first began to modify the gendered aspects of Portuguese, but it has begun to gain some popularity in recent years, primarily in queer communities, without any significant wider recognition. The most common modifications are replacing the gendered -o or -a with -@, -x, and -e. I chose to explore all of these endings in a unique art book form I invented. You can slide the gold square across the sentence and move the arms to modify the endings of the words, making them feminine, masculine, or gender neutral.
